DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, July 8\, 2025\n7:30 PM  9:30 PM\n\n\nBush Family Home1412 West Ohio Avenue\, Midland\, TX\, 79701\, United States (map)\n\nThe Bush Family Home State Historic Site announces a new program coming this summer. Four movies from the 1950s will be shown in the backyard of the home. This year’s theme is monster movies. All guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and snacks. Each event will be from 6:30-9:00 pm. \nDuring the series\, the dates\, topics and speakers will be:\nJune 10 – The Thing from Another World (1951)\nJune 24 – Creature from The Black Lagoon (1954)\nJuly 8 – Curse of Frankenstein (1957)\nJuly 22 – Dracula (1958) \nActivites associated with each movie will be available at each movie screening. Those include:\n• An activity and craft about flying saucers using paper plates\, frisbees\, and a boomerang for The Thing from Another World.\n• A water activity and fossil craft using air dry clay for the Creature from The Black Lagoon.\n• An experiment and a craft for the Curse of Frankenstein.\n• A movie poster design activity for Dracula. \nMovie going was a major social event\, with many people attending theaters regularly. Because tv ownership went up in the 1950s\, theaters added to the experience with the introduction of cinerama\, 3D\, and other widescreen technologies. Even George W. Bush would ride his bike downtown Midland to see cowboy serials and science fiction movies. \n“The Summer Movie Series is meant to showcase the entertainment in theaters while the Bush family lived in Midland in the 1950s\,” said Site Educator Chase Kirby. “It will be fun for the whole family\, young or old.”
